This type of hybrid is the most efficient, and it eliminates gas use completely if the battery is fully charged. This is the least expensive type of hybrid SUV to operate. An assist hybrid is a form of hybrid vehicle that uses the battery to provide assistance to the gas powered engine, however this form of hybrid vehicle can not run on battery power alone, like a full hybrid can. This hybrid type will help to conserve gasoline and get better gas mileage, but not as efficiently as a full hybrid would. A mild hybrid is not really a hybrid at all. There is no electric battery involved, but the function of the gas powered engine is different. The engine in these vehicles automatically turns on and off while you are driving, depending on whether it is needed or not. The engine may shut off if you are stopping at a red light or slowing down to park, and then turn back on when you start to move or speed up.
